A student-led movement has defeated the ruling party in Serbia’s election, an upset that has impressed students across Europe, including in Perth, where they have been inspired to campaign for something achievable, such as a bus that turns up.
“Serbian students changed the government,” said a Perth student. “We just want the 7 to come when it says. One small step. Then the canteen.”
Analysts say the result shows the power of young people who organise, turn up and don’t stop talking. Perth parents say they knew that already, from bedtime.
The Perthetic congratulates Serbia’s voters and notes that Perth students also remain committed to their traditional campaigns: cheaper pints, faster Wi-Fi and a library clock that works.
