Crieff Road Gas Works to End After Six Weeks; Letham Drivers Unsure How to Drive in a Straight Line Any More

Residents who have spent September and October on diversions say they 'may need lessons'.

LETHAM — Gas repairs that have shut a stretch of Crieff Road since 14 September are due to end by the end of next week, and Letham residents are preparing for the shock of being able to drive directly home.

“I’ve been going via Feus Road, Dunkeld Road, the moon and Tibbermore,” said one. “If I drive straight down Crieff Road now I’ll probably overshoot Letham and end up in Crieff, which is apparently where it goes. Who knew.”

The works, originally planned for two weeks, were extended by four. Locals have described the closure as “the longest two weeks of my life”, “basically a lifestyle” and “fine, honestly, I’ve made friends at the temporary lights.”

Residents are now bracing for Riggs Road to close in November, which a Letham man described as “the sequel nobody asked for, but everyone expected.”

The real story: Real: Crieff Road closure (gas repairs since 14 Sep) due to end by end of next week; Riggs Road closed 3–15 Nov for SSEN cabling (The Courier, 21 Oct 2026)

  2. I’ve had more traffic past my house this month than in 40 years. Some of them wave. It’s quite nice actually.

  3. @Elaine I’ve waved at you about 30 times. Blue Fiesta.
