With sunshine forecast across Perth and Kinross today, the UV index is rated “low”, which in Scotland at the end of October is like being told there’s a small chance of a heatwave.

One Perth man has taken the advice personally. “If there’s sun, I’m wearing suncream,” said the 63-year-old from Tulloch. “Factor 50. Face, ears, back of the neck. I’ll be the only man at the guising who smells like Benidorm.”

His wife said he had been “looking for an excuse since August” and that he also packed sunglasses, which he will wear “until the first neep lantern”.

Health experts say sun safety is important all year. Perth residents say they will “keep it in mind”, but that the bigger risk today is “a sweetie wrapper in the eye on the High Street”.

Anyone using suncream after sunset is reminded that it does not keep out witches.

  1. That’s my husband. He’s also wearing the sunglasses indoors. Please stop encouraging him.

  2. Fair play to him. You never know. That’s how they get you.
