Sunset Hits 4.34pm as Perth Loses Three Minutes a Day and Starts Leaving Work in the Dark Without Having Noticed It Arrive

Daylight continues to shrink. One Perth office worker says he hasn't seen his house in daylight on a weekday since the clocks changed.

The sun sets in Perth at 4.34pm today, and by tomorrow it will have shrunk to 4.31pm, as the city’s evenings keep getting shorter.

“I left the house in the dark and came home in the dark,” said a Perth office worker. “On Thursday I saw my front door at lunchtime and didn’t recognise it. I thought it was a neighbour’s. It’s green. I always thought it was blue.”

Daylight experts say the shortest day is still seven weeks away. “It gets worse before it gets better,” said one. “But on the bright side, there’s less time to notice the roadworks.”

Perth’s lamp lighters, or rather the timers that have replaced them, are working overtime. One resident said his street lights now come on “while I’m still eating my lunch”.

The Perthetic reminds readers that the sun does still exist. It’s just in Australia at the moment, and has stopped returning our calls.

The views expressed are those of the reader, and frankly that's on them.

  1. I also didn’t recognise my front door. Turns out I’d been going into next door’s for a week. They didn’t say anything.

  2. The sun’s not in Australia. It’s in Spain, with my sister. She sends photos. I’ve blocked her.
