The Met Office long-range outlook suggests high pressure will bring dry, settled weather into early November, with fog and frost, and Perth is preparing for Kinnoull Hill to vanish from view for hours at a time.

“Every year it goes. Every year it comes back,” said a Bridgend resident. “I’ve never once seen it leave. It’s just there, and then it’s not, and then it’s back looking smug.”

The Friarton Bridge is also expected to disappear periodically, which drivers say “won’t make much difference, as you can’t see the end of the queue anyway”.

Drivers are advised to use dipped headlights, leave extra distance and resist the urge to follow the car in front all the way to Dundee just because it looked confident.
