Bonfire Night Outlook: Cloudy With a Chance of Drizzle; Perth Fireworks Expected to Go Up, Disappear Into the Cloud, and Be Enjoyed by Planes
Midweek looks mainly cloudy, with patchy drizzle and some early frost and fog. Thursday is 5 November. Perth's dogs are cautiously optimistic.

The Met Office says Tuesday will be cloudier with a few light showers, and that the rest of the week will be mainly cloudy, with patchy drizzle at times and a chance of early frost and fog patches.
Thursday, as every dog in Perth knows, is Bonfire Night.
“If there’s low cloud on Thursday, the rockets will go straight up into it and you’ll not see a thing,” said a Craigie man who has been to every Perth bonfire since 1974. “You’ll hear a bang and see a sort of orange glow, like somebody’s put a light on in heaven. Still good. You pay for the bang.”
A North Muirton family said they would be “sitting in the car with the windows down and the heater on”, which they described as “the Scottish way”.
Pet owners are cautiously hopeful that drizzle might keep the fireworks to a minimum. “I’ve told the dog it might rain,” said a Letham woman. “He didn’t say anything. He’s a spaniel. But he looked relieved.”
The Perthetic advises everybody to wrap up, keep pets indoors and remember that a sparkler is still too hot to hold even after it’s gone out, which the Perthetic’s sports editor learns again every single year.

Every year the same. Bang, whoosh, gone into the clag. Like watching money go into a cloud. Because it is.

Wrap up, bring a flask, and remember a sparkler is not a sword, Kyle.
— Sandra T., Muirton, 2 November 2026 -
My dog would like the drizzle to be heavy enough to cancel the whole thing. My dog has never got its way.
