Kinross is preparing for a night of progressive rock this week when Karnataka play Backstage at The Green, and residents have been asking an important question: how long is a song?

“I went to a prog gig in 1978,” said a retired man from Milnathort. “The band played three songs. I went in on a Friday and came out on a Saturday. I had a beard when I came out. I didn’t have one when I went in.”

Prog fans say this is an exaggeration. “Most songs are under 20 minutes,” said one. “Unless there’s a flute. If there’s a flute, all bets are off.”

The venue is on the A922 at Muirs, where roadworks with a 10mph convoy run until Friday. Locals say that if you leave at the start of a long guitar solo, you can be home before it finishes.

Tickets are on sale now. The Perthetic recommends bringing ear plugs, a cushion and a packed lunch.
