AUCHTERARDER — A visiting golfer is reported to have mistaken a roadworks cone near the A9 for a pin flag after a long lunch and played two shots towards it before being gently returned to the course.

“It was a lovely line,” said a groundsman. “Just the wrong sport.”

The golfer is said to have posted a score of 4 “on the traffic hole” and asked if he could book it again. The local roads team said they would “think about it.”
