PERTH — Reports that St Johnstone had substitutes stripped and the board ready moments before Dundee United’s equaliser have convinced Saints fans that the substitution board is “officially cursed.”

“Every time that board comes out, something terrible happens,” said one regular. “It’s like a horror film. The kitman reaches for it, the stand goes quiet, somebody whispers ‘Not the board.’ Then the other lot score.”

Some supporters propose the club simply make its substitutions in advance, “at around Thursday.” The club declined to comment on rumours the board is to be blessed before the Ibrox trip.

“It’s not the board’s fault, it’s the timing,” said one fan. “But try telling the board. It’ll never work in this town again.”

No letters yet. The town is uncharacteristically quiet.
