Former St Johnstone manager Derek McInnes was booed on his return to Tynecastle as Hearts and Rangers drew 2-2, with a post-match handshake described by observers as “brief”, “frosty” and “the coldest thing in Edinburgh, including the castle”.
The Perthetic weather desk, briefed to cover a dry, mild Thursday, was immediately redeployed to the touchline. “We recorded minus four in the technical area,” said our forecaster. “Locally lower near the dugout. Gloves recommended.”
In Perth, fans who remember McInnes from his McDiarmid Park days watched with the calm detachment of people whose own team had just scored in the 93rd minute. “Nice man. Good manager. We’d have clapped,” said one. “Then we’d have asked about the parking.”
Elsewhere, Celtic drew 2-2 with Dundee United, Falkirk beat Aberdeen 1-0 and Hibs drew 1-1 with St Mirren, meaning the league table now looks like someone sneezed on it.

I’ve seen warmer handshakes at the dentist.

They’re grown men. A handshake is a handshake. It was a lovely handshake. I’m told.
