PERTH — A Westminster Hall debate on recognising cask ale production and serving as intangible cultural heritage has been greeted in Perth with what one fictional landlord called “the first sensible idea out of London since decimalisation”.

“If they need evidence, send them to us,” he said. “We’ve been safeguarding the culture every Thursday since 1974. Sometimes Friday too.”

No Perth pubs were harmed in the making of this paragraph. Several were lightly celebrated.
