Budget Day: Everyday Fixes Land; Perth Measures Them Against the Gas Bill

Standing charges, prescription freezes and tariff chatter — satire reserved for the gherkins.

LONDON / PERTH — Budget Day politics have been thick with ‘everyday fixes’, talk of easing pressure on household bills, and the immortal detail that tariff tweaks might shave a little off imported gherkins and beans.

Perth’s fictional Cost-of-Living Desk will celebrate any real help with standing charges and prescriptions without needing a punchline. The gherkins, however, are fair game.

“If the jar gets cheaper, fine,” said fictional Scone resident Isa. “If the standing charge blinks, I’ll frame the bill.”

We will not invent policy. We will invent a bridie amendment. Priorities.
