Physicists Say the Universe May Be ‘Stuck in Place’. I Could Have Told Them That From Broxden

This week physicists suggested the universe may be stuck in place, held in a “cosmic lockdown” that stops it jumping into a different state. I read this in a queue on the approach to Broxden, where I have been in cosmic lockdown since 7.42am.

As I understand it, the universe sits in a valley and its surroundings stop it tunnelling through to a better one. That’s not physics. That’s rush hour. I can see the better valley. It’s called the M90. I cannot get to it.

I invite the researchers on a field trip. They could study Broxden, where traffic settles into a local minimum and refuses to move; roadworks existing permanently as both finished and not finished; and a football club “about to break into Europe” for most of recorded time.

Perth has been stuck in place for years. We just never thought to write it up in a journal.

The real story: 'The Universe seems to be stuck in place by a strange quantum phenomenon' (ScienceAlert)
