A Dry Day Is a Terrible Thing to Waste, and I Wasted It
Our columnist on the pressure to 'make the most' of a mild Perth Thursday.

It is mild, it is dry, there are sunny intervals, and I feel a crushing obligation to go outside and do something with it.
This is the curse of the Perth climate. A wet day asks nothing of you. You put on the telly; you put on the soup; you blame the sky. But a dry day in late October demands a walk up Kinnoull Hill, a bike ride along the Tay and photographs of leaves for the family group chat.
I did none of those things. I cleaned the grill pan. I found a fiver in an old coat. I stared out of the window, feeling guilty, as a neighbour walked past in shorts.
Next week the forecast is fog. Thank goodness. At last I can stay in again with a clear conscience.

No letters yet. The town is uncharacteristically quiet.
