Why Pay for an Escape Room When You Can Try Leaving a Perth Car Park After 5pm?

Plans for escape rooms on St John Street have been met with excitement, and I am excited too. But Perth has been offering escape experiences for decades, free of charge, in every multi-storey car park.

Picture it: the ticket machine won’t take your card. The barrier will not lift. A queue forms behind you. You have 60 seconds to find a coin, a code or a man in a hi-vis vest. That is an escape room. That is theatre.

Then there’s the South Inch on a dark winter evening, which I would call horror-themed, and the Friarton Bridge during lane closures, an endurance challenge with a lovely view.

Still, best of luck to the new venture. If the puzzles are too easy, I can recommend Broxden at 5.15pm. Nobody has ever escaped.

No letters yet. The town is uncharacteristically quiet.
