PERTH — Perth’s fleet of gritters took to the roads for its first practice run of the season and, by all accounts, may have been slightly too enthusiastic.

“We grit everything on the first day,” a driver explained. “Muscle memory. Bit of a stretch. Three cats on Dunkeld Road got some. A wedding party coming out of a church got some too. The bride said it was lucky. I’m not sure.”

The council insists the gritters are ready for winter and that the first snow is expected “eventually”. The cats have not commented but are said to be “never more sure-footed”.

No letters yet. The town is uncharacteristically quiet.
