PERTH — Politicians of every stripe gathered in Perth this week to sign a cross-party pledge to “do something about potholes”, before realising it was word-for-word the same as the pledge they had signed last October, and the October before that.
“Consistency is important,” said a party spokesperson. “If we change the pledge, people will think we’ve changed our minds. We haven’t. We still think something should be done. We just haven’t decided what, or who, or when.”
The photo opportunity took place next to a pothole in Letham which local pothole-naming pioneer Agnes Brodie-Fairlie has christened “Derek”. She described the event as “very moving, especially for Derek, who has never had press.”
