Struan Road Closed Westbound All Week; Drivers Sent Round Campsie, Tweedsmuir and Newhouse Roads in a Loop So Scenic It Should Be on a Postcard
The westbound closure runs from today until Friday 6 November. Eastbound traffic can carry on as normal, smugly.

Struan Road in Perth is closed to westbound traffic from today, Monday 2 November, until Friday 6 November, with parking and loading restrictions in place. The signed diversion runs via Campsie Road, Tweedsmuir Road and Newhouse Road.
Eastbound traffic is not affected, which has created two classes of Struan Road driver: the lucky and the diverted.
“I go east in the morning and west at night,” said a nurse who lives nearby. “So in the morning I sail along like normal. At night I go round three other roads to get home. It’s like the road’s playing a joke on me. It’s like a one-way relationship.”
A Tweedsmuir Road woman said she was “honoured” that her street had been chosen for the diversion. “We’ve never been on a diversion before,” she said. “Campsie Road has been on loads. They think they’re something special. Now it’s our turn.”
A Perth Academy pupil said the loop was “about the same length as a lap of the running track”, and that some of his PE class were thinking of walking it for fun. “We won’t, obviously,” he said. “But we’re thinking about it.”
The Perthetic notes that the diversion adds a few minutes, and recommends drivers use those minutes to listen to an extra song on the radio. Something calming. Not the Red Hot Chilli Pipers. Not yet.

Went round the loop three times on Monday before I worked out where I was. The view’s lovely, it’s just the same view three times.

Struan Road could do with a week off. It’s been through a lot.
