B934 Through Dunning Glen Closed Until 10 November; Sheep Report the Quietest Fortnight Since the Romans Came Through

The road is closed from today, with a diversion via the A823, A9 and B9141. The glen is expected to be very peaceful indeed.

The B934 through Dunning Glen is closed from today, Monday 2 November, until Tuesday 10 November, Perth and Kinross Council says, with a diversion via the A823, the A9 and the B9141.

The narrow glen road is a popular shortcut between Dunning and the Yetts o’ Muckhart, as well as a favourite route for cyclists and anybody who enjoys braking hard for sheep.

With the road shut, the glen’s sheep have the place to themselves.

“They’ll love it,” said a Dunning farmer. “Normally they stand in the road and stare at every car until it stops. Now there won’t be any cars. I think they’ll get bored. They might start staring at each other.”

A cyclist from Auchterarder said she was gutted, because the road through the glen was “the most beautiful 15 minutes in Perthshire, and also the hilliest”. “I’ll do the diversion instead,” she said. “It’s longer, but at least there’s a café on the way.”

A Dunning resident said the closure meant “a nice quiet week in the village”. “We’ll get the odd lost car,” she said. “Somebody always ignores the signs, drives to the barrier, looks at it for a bit, and then does an eight-point turn in front of the church. That’s our entertainment.”

The Perthetic advises drivers to follow the diversion and reminds them that if you meet a sheep on any road in Perthshire, the sheep has right of way. It’s not in the Highway Code, but the sheep don’t know that.

Letters to the Editor

The views expressed are those of the reader, and frankly that's on them.

  1. The sheep have taken over. One was standing in the middle of the road like a lollipop man.

  2. Lovely and quiet. I can hear myself think. Mostly I think about how long the diversion is.

    — Margaret K., Yetts o' Muckhart, 2 November 2026
