Riggs Road Closed Northbound From Tomorrow Until 15 November; Drivers Diverted via Rose Crescent and Jeanfield Road, Which Have Been Told to Look Their Best

The closure runs from 3 to 15 November. Residents along the diversion are bracing themselves for more traffic and more people waving at them by mistake.

Riggs Road in Perth will be closed to northbound traffic from Tuesday 3 November until Sunday 15 November, Perth and Kinross Council says. A diversion will take drivers via the A93 Glasgow Road, Rose Crescent and Jeanfield Road.

That means a lot more cars on some quiet streets, and residents have mixed feelings about their new fame.

“Rose Crescent is a lovely street,” said one resident. “We’re not used to visitors. Now we’ll have two weeks of people driving past slowly, looking a bit lost and peering at our front gardens. I’ve cut the grass. I’m not having anybody from Glasgow Road judging my hedge.”

A Jeanfield Road man said he planned to stand at his window and wave at every car. “They’ll be confused,” he said. “They’ll think they know me. Some of them will wave back. By the end of it I’ll have about 400 new friends.”

Local drivers who use Riggs Road every day said they had already worked out their own routes. “I’ve got a secret way,” said a taxi driver, tapping his nose. “I’m not telling you what it is. If I tell you, everybody will use it, and then it won’t be a secret way. It’ll just be a queue.”

The Perthetic advises everybody to follow the signs, drive slowly through residential streets and wave back if anybody waves at you. It’s only polite.

The views expressed are those of the reader, and frankly that's on them.

  1. Jeanfield Road is always looking its best, thank you very much. Rose Crescent’s another matter.

  2. Two weeks. I’ll just go to Tesco on the bus like it’s 1983.
