Passengers on a Perth bus burst into spontaneous applause this morning after their driver spotted a pensioner hurrying for the stop with two bags of messages and simply waited for her.

“She was doing a sort of fast walk,” said one passenger. “Not a run. You can’t run with eggs. And he just sat there with the doors open and smiled. I nearly cried.”

The pensioner, who was going to the Health Centre, thanked the driver warmly and told the whole bus she would be “telling everybody”. She has now told the Perthetic, so she has.

Bus users say small acts of kindness make a big difference, especially in a week when buses on the Blairgowrie Road are on a diversion and everyone is a bit confused.

The driver declined to comment, apart from saying it was “just normal”. The Perthetic disagrees. It was lovely.
