Including 351 road closures and 201 sets of portable traffic lights. One Blairgowrie man says the shorter list would fit on a Post-it.

Perth and Kinross now has 848 active roadworks, including 351 road closures and 201 sets of portable traffic lights, according to figures compiled by a roadworks tracking site — and motorists have proposed a radical solution.

“Just publish the list of roads that are open,” said a Blairgowrie driver. “It’d be shorter. You could fit it on a Post-it. I’d stick it on the dashboard.”

The figure means there is roughly one roadwork for every 180 residents of Perth and Kinross. Statisticians say that if every resident adopted a set of works, they could visit it at weekends and bring it a flask.

Roadworks are, of course, essential for maintaining utilities, resurfacing roads and keeping everything working. Motorists accept this. They would simply like the works to be spread out a bit, “maybe not all on the way to Tesco”.

The council’s online roadworks page remains the best source of information. Several readers say they now visit it more often than Facebook.

The views expressed are those of the reader, and frankly that's on them.

  1. I’ll make the Post-it. It’ll have the A9 on it and a question mark.

    — Ronnie G., Blairgowrie, 30 October 2026
  2. One roadwork for every 180 residents. I’d like to formally adopt the one outside my house. I’ve already named it.

    — Sharon E., Scone, 30 October 2026
  3. I’d still rather they fixed the potholes. Even if it means 849.
