Saints Head to Kilmarnock on Halloween; Fans Debate Whether Artificial Pitch Counts as a Costume

St Johnstone travel to Kilmarnock tomorrow afternoon for a Halloween fixture at Rugby Park, and travelling supporters are already arguing about costumes.
“I’m going as a three-point weekend,” said one season-ticket holder from Letham. “Nobody’s seen one in a while. It’ll be terrifying.” Another fan plans to go as “a super sub” in honour of the manager’s praise for the bench after Wednesday’s 2-2 draw with Motherwell, by sitting down for 70 minutes and then running about.
Kilmarnock’s artificial pitch has long divided opinion in Perth. Purists say it is unnatural. Realists point out that after a week of Perth weather, the McDiarmid Park pitch is also mostly made of something other than grass, including at least one seagull.
Kick-off is 3pm, which gives the bus time to get home before the guising starts. Fans have been asked not to bring neeps into the ground, even carved ones.
Saints’ next home game is against Dundee on 7 November, which local historians describe as “not Halloween, but still frightening”.

That plastic pitch is the scariest thing I’ll see this Halloween, and I’m married.

Three points at Rugby Park would be a treat. Not holding my breath, mind, I need it for the singing.
