Pitlochry’s tourist trade enjoyed an unexpected boost today as visitors arrived asking where they could buy “one of those town halls for a pound”.
“An American couple offered two pounds, to be sure of it,” said a shop assistant on Atholl Road. “I told them it’s going to the community. They asked if they could join the community. I said it takes about forty years and a lot of scones.”
Several coach parties have now added the hall to their itineraries, between the salmon ladder and the shortbread shop, with guides pointing out the building “at its new low price, but not for you”.
Pitlochry remains delighted to welcome visitors, though it has asked them to stop putting £1 coins through the letterbox.

No letters yet. The town is uncharacteristically quiet.
