KINROSS — Alberta held a referendum on Monday on whether to begin leaving Canada, with counting continuing overnight, and Perthshire paying very close attention.
“We’re not saying anything,” said a Kinross man, folding a hand-drawn flag into his pocket. “We’re just interested. Academically. In how you’d go about it. Hypothetically. With a loch.”
Elsewhere, parts of the Carse have asked about “joining Angus, temporarily, for the beaches”, while Auchterarder has requested “observer status at Gleneagles, permanently.”
The council said it remained fully committed to the integrity of Perth and Kinross, and had commissioned a study into seceding from the Scottish Government’s decluttering plans “on a non-binding basis, like Alberta, but with more rain.”

No letters yet. The town is uncharacteristically quiet.
