Overnight traffic signals for the dualling work continue. Perthshire families are planning around them like a school timetable.

Overnight temporary traffic lights between the B898 Dalguise junction and Ballinluig are listed as running until 8 January 2029, as work continues on dualling this stretch of the A9.

Locals say the dates have become part of family life. “My granddaughter was born the week the lights went up,” said a woman from Ballinluig. “We said she’d be at school before they’re finished. Now we’re saying she’ll be at secondary school. She’s very excited about the dual carriageway. She thinks it’s a theme park.”

Drivers say the overnight lights only affect people travelling between 7pm and 6am. “It’s not too bad, unless you’re a night-shift worker, a lorry driver, a vet, or anyone coming home from Pitlochry after a good night,” said one.

Supporters of dualling say the long wait will be worth it for a safer road. “It’s taken a long time,” said a Pitlochry man. “But when it’s done, it’ll be done. Like a good stew.”

The Perthetic will report on progress regularly. Our A9 correspondent is currently 34 and expects to be about 37 when the lights go.

  2. My grandson was born the week they started. He’ll be at school before it’s finished. He’ll probably help.

    — Brenda F., Ballinluig, 1 November 2026
  3. The traffic lights and I are on first-name terms now. The red one’s called Barry.
