Defence Secretary’s ‘1,000 Days’ Warning Leaves Perth Asking If That’s Before or After the A9 Dualling

Residents produce calendars; A9 still listed as 'later'.

PERTH — A warning from the Defence Secretary that Britain must be ready within 1,000 days was met in Perth with one question: “Is that before or after the A9 is finished?”

“We’ve learned not to trust timelines,” said fictional Pitlochry driver Hamish Gow, 67. “I was told the A9 would be dualled when I was a boy. I’m now a grandfather. The A9 is still a single carriageway with ambition.”

Ministers have been invited to Perth to explain, but were advised to allow extra time for roadworks.
