Yule Be Sorry, Scott Street (July 2026 – October 2026)
Perth's earliest Christmas shop opened in July and closed on Halloween, defeated by a skeleton in the window next door.

Yule Be Sorry, the Christmas shop that opened on Scott Street in July, has closed its doors on Halloween, having sold, by the owner’s count, “four baubles and a tea towel”.
The shop opened in the middle of a heatwave, selling advent calendars, tinsel and Santa hats to people wearing shorts. “We were ahead of our time,” said the owner. “About five months ahead.”
Business picked up slightly in September, when one customer bought a wreath “for a funeral of a houseplant”. The owner says that counted.
In the end, the shop was defeated by Halloween. The shop next door put a skeleton in its window, and “nobody wanted to look at a reindeer when there was a skeleton wearing a party hat next door”, the owner said.
Yule Be Sorry will reopen, the owner says, “next July, as planned. Christmas is a marathon, not a sprint.” Those who passed it in the summer say it was more of a crawl.

I bought the tea towel. It’s lovely. I’m using it in July next year too.

Four baubles in three months is still better than my own Christmas shopping record.
