THE SWEETIE SHOP, Crieff Road (1958–1999): Purveyor of Quarter-Pounds and Dental Appointments

Remembered for its jars, its scales and a counter just too high for children to see over.

PERTH — We remember a sweetie shop of the type every Perth child knew, where a quarter of soor plooms was weighed out with the solemnity of a goldsmith.

Its owner was famous for saying “is that everything?” in a tone that made it clear it should be.

It is survived by a generation of fillings.
