PROUDFOOT, South Street, Perth (c.1975–2026): A Shop That Smelled Comfortingly of Leather and Good Decisions
Purveyor of handbags, gloves and sensible boots; survived by a vennel, a car park and a lot of footfall that went elsewhere.

PERTH — Proudfoot, the leather and fashion shop on South Street, will pass away peacefully on Saturday 24 October, aged about 50, after a long period of falling footfall.
For five decades it sold handbags, gloves, purses and the kind of boots your mother said would “last you years”, and did. Regulars remember its windows, its loyal customers and its smell: “leather, with a hint of a well-made decision.”
In later life it struggled with the troubles facing many city-centre shops, including the long aftermath of a fire nearby and problems in the lane beside it.
It leaves behind an empty unit and generations of Perth handbags that will outlive us all. In lieu of flowers, mourners are asked to go into town and buy something from a shop that is still open.

No letters yet. The town is uncharacteristically quiet.
