Loch Leven Play Area Learns It Is ‘Uninspiring’ From the Newspapers; Swings Said to Be ‘Quietly Devastated’

RSPB plans to replace the play park with an inclusive nature-themed trail. The roundabout says it has given decades of service and deserved to hear it face to face.

Loch Leven’s children’s play area has spoken for the first time since plans emerged to replace it with an inclusive, nature-themed trail, after it was described in planning papers as “uninspiring”.

“Uninspiring,” said the slide, through a spokesperson. “I have been inspiring children to go down me since before some of these planners were born. Head first, feet first, on a tray in the frost. And this is the thanks.”

The RSPB, which runs the reserve, wants children to clamber over logs, follow wildlife trails and learn about the loch’s geese, ospreys and pink-footed visitors, subject to the council’s approval. Parents in Kinross welcomed the idea, with one father noting that “a log never breaks, never needs a safety inspection and never has a wasp’s nest under it”.

The swings are understood to be considering their options and have reportedly been approached by a play park in Milnathort that is “looking for experience”.

Geese at the reserve were unavailable for comment, but were seen landing in a large V shape, which experts say may stand for “very nice trail”.

Letters to the Editor

The views expressed are those of the reader, and frankly that's on them.

  1. My two loved that roundabout. They also loved a puddle and a stick. They’ll love the trail.

    — Kirsty A., Kinross, 30 October 2026
  2. Milnathort will take the swings. We’ve got a gap next to the bench where the old seesaw was.

    — Bill F., Milnathort, 30 October 2026
  3. Uninspiring is harsh. I’d say it was ‘well established’. Like me.
