Perth Harbour Floodgates Close Overnight; Tay Reportedly ‘Gutted It Wasn’t Invited In’

River said to have stood outside Friarton Road for hours 'like a teenager locked out of a party'.

PERTH — The floodgates at Perth Harbour were shut on Sunday afternoon ahead of high water at 2am, closing Friarton Road and leaving the River Tay, sources say, “absolutely raging”.

“It came right up to the gate and just stood there,” said fictional night-shift observer Graham Pirie, 61. “You could feel it thinking, ‘I used to be able to just walk in here.'”

The council said it aimed to reopen the gates at around 7am on Monday for business access. The Tay is understood to have gone back to its bed in a huff and is refusing to discuss the matter until at least Wednesday.
