Tam McGlashan of Letham says he will be the first person out of Perth’s proposed St John Street escape rooms, and he is confident, because he has been training for decades.

“I’ve got out of Inveralmond on a Saturday in under twenty minutes,” said Tam, 49, holding up a stopwatch. “I’ve exited a multi-storey with a ticket that wouldn’t scan. I once got out of a DIY superstore bathroom department during a sale. Nobody gets out of there.”

His preparation includes daily puzzles, deep breathing and a laminated list of every door code he has ever been told, “which are all 1234, mostly”.

Asked what he would do if trapped, he said: “Same as always. Phone the wife. She knows a guy.”
