Washing lines across Perth were reporting complete, outdoor, start-to-finish dryness today as mild weather and a gentle breeze did their work.
“I put out sheets at nine, and they were dry by two,” said a Letham resident, holding a crisp pillowcase aloft like a trophy. “I’ve not seen that since the summer holidays. I nearly cried. I didn’t, in case it rained.”
One optimistic duvet in Scone was reported to have dried “mostly”, which its owner called “a historic achievement for a duvet in October”.
Pegs across the city were said to be overjoyed, and asked to be left on the line rather than tipped back into a bucket where they get tangled with string.

Two loads and the duvet. I was emotional.

My towels came in crispy. I’d forgotten what that felt like.
