Good News: A Washing Dried Outdoors in Perth at the End of October, and Witnesses Are Prepared to Swear to It
Sunshine, 14°C and a light breeze produce what one Craigie woman called 'the best drying day since August'.

In scenes not seen since the summer, a washing was hung out in Perth this morning and was fully dry by the afternoon.
“Towels, sheets, the lot,” said a Craigie woman, holding a pillowcase that she described as “crisp”. “I didn’t believe it. I had to sniff it twice. It smells of outside. Proper outside.”
With long sunny spells, a top of 14°C and a breeze just strong enough to flap a sheet, today was officially declared a “good drying day” in households across the city — a rare designation for late October.
Neighbours compared lines over fences. A man in Letham said he had managed two loads and was considering a third “out of spite”.
Tomorrow brings cloud and evening drizzle, so the window is closing. But for one golden Friday, Perth’s tumble dryers were allowed a rest.

It was me. The pillowcase was very crisp. I’m still thinking about it.

Did three loads. The neighbour did two. We’re no longer on speaking terms.
