BLAIRGOWRIE — When the power went off on Sunday, a fictional cul-de-sac pooled one generator, thirty phone chargers and a single kettle, and ended up throwing what residents called “the best night we’ve had since the Millennium”.

“We met people we’ve lived next to for twenty years,” said fictional resident Jean Fyfe. “Turns out the man at number 9 plays the fiddle. And he’s called Frank. I thought he was called Bob. I’ve been saying ‘morning Bob’ since 2006.”

Frank said he didn’t mind.
