BRASÍLIA / PERTH — Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva won Brazil’s presidential runoff after voting was extended by two hours, partly due to heavy rain. His rival has refused to concede.
Perth residents expressed solidarity. “Heavy rain delaying things? That’s us every Tuesday,” said fictional Perth bin-watcher Ina Robertson. “We’d love two extra hours. Mainly to get the bins back from Fife.”
The council said it would not be extending anything, but would “take the idea under consideration for a decade or so”.
