PERTH — We mark the memory of a kiosk that repaired chewed-up cassettes with a pencil, a steady hand and total discretion.

“He never judged,” said a former customer. “Even when it was the third tape of the same love song.”

It is survived by every pencil in Perth with a slightly hexagonal bite mark.
