Traffic Cones Have Feelings Too, and Frankly They’ve Been Through Enough

A cone-rights activist on the forgotten victims of Perthshire roadworks.

People see a cone and think “ugh”. I see a cone and think: that cone has been standing in the rain on the A90 for four weeks without a single complaint. Have you? Could you?

Cones are kicked, run over, stolen by students and worn as hats. They are put out with no explanation and left for years. Some of them never see the roadworks they came for.

I propose a Cone Day, a public holiday where we thank cones for their service. Everyone would stay home, which is exactly what the cones would want, because then nobody would be driving into them.
