Phase two of the roadworks on the A93 Perth Road in Blairgowrie is heading towards the finish line, and drivers are already wondering what to do with the time they’ll save.

“Five minutes a day,” said a Rattray commuter. “That’s 25 minutes a week. That’s nearly two hours a month. I could learn a language. I could take up yoga. I’ll probably just sit in the car outside the house for five minutes, out of habit.”

Some residents of Beeches Road and Emma Street, which have been part of the diversion, say they will miss the traffic. “We’ve had a lot of company,” said one. “I’ve been waving at the same lorry driver every morning. We’ve never spoken. I think we’re friends.”

The council says the work is on schedule. A Blairgowrie man said he would believe it when he saw it, “and even then, I’ll need to see it twice”.

Drivers are asked to follow the signs until the road opens. Then they’re asked to stop following the signs, which some may find hard.

  2. I’ll believe it when I see it. Twice. Maybe three times.
