Perth’s Christmas markets will return to King Edward Street and the High Street from 20 November, with more than 40 local producers, artisans and independent businesses selling gifts, food and drink.

Tourism bosses expect a busy weekend and are urging visitors from further afield to plan ahead. “Book your hotel, plan your parking and get to the tablet stall early,” said one market fan. “By 2pm on Saturday it’s crumbs and tears.”

Other highlights include a Santa’s Grotto at Horsecross Plaza, the Santa Run, Christmas ghost tours and a drone show on the Sunday evening.

Visitors are reminded that Perth markets are not like big-city markets. “In Edinburgh, they’ll charge you a fortune for a mulled wine in a plastic cup,” said one Perth trader. “Here, we’ll charge you slightly less, but we’ll ask after your mother.”

Organisers say Christmas in Perth is “where Christmas is made”. Local guisers note that it is still Halloween, but say they’ll “allow it from tomorrow”.

The views expressed are those of the reader, and frankly that's on them.

  1. I’m at the tablet stall at 10am on the dot. Get there early or go home sad.

  2. Perth traders asking after your mother is better than any mulled wine. Though I’ll take both.
