Opinion: Fine, Twin With Texas — But Nobody Tells Them About the A9
Our columnist welcomes Aberfeldy's new transatlantic friends, and has prepared a list of things they must never find out.

Let me be clear: I have nothing against Salado, Texas. I’ve never been. I’m sure it’s lovely. I’m told it has a Highland Games, which is more than some parts of Perth can say.
But if Aberfeldy is going to be twinned with it, there are things the Texans must not be told until the paperwork is signed.
They must not be told about the A9. Texans believe in big roads. They will not understand a road that has been “being dualled” since they were in primary school. They will ask why. Nobody in Aberfeldy can answer that, and nobody should have to.
They must not be told about midges until they arrive, at which point it will be too late and they will be ours forever.
And they must not be told that “the weather’s lovely today” in Perthshire means it has rained for less than half the day.
Twinning is a wonderful thing. It’s like a marriage. You don’t mention everything on the first date.

The views expressed are those of the reader, and frankly that's on them.

Do not mention the A9 is the best advice in the paper this year.

Morag is wrong. Tell them about the midges at once. Let them make an informed choice.

My cousin’s in Houston. He says they’d love the A9. They’d think the queue is a parade.
