Overnight temporary traffic lights are in place on the A85 Comrie Road in Crieff until the early hours of Saturday, with crews working through the evenings.

The arrangement has been warmly welcomed by daytime drivers and coolly received by Crieff’s owls, who say they have been “stuck at the red for ages, and we have places to be, mostly a field”.

A spokes-badger said the nocturnal community “appreciated the work” but asked that the lights be “a wee bit less bright, it’s like a stage show out there”.

By day the road is open as normal — the best kind of roadworks: the ones that happen while you’re asleep.

No letters yet. The town is uncharacteristically quiet.
