Brazilian presidential candidate Flavio Bolsonaro has flown to Miami after his election defeat, prompting Perth to reflect on its own far more modest traditions for those who have just lost something.
“When you lose in Perth, you go to the pub, you have a pint, and somebody tells you it was a stitch-up,” said a veteran of many pub quizzes. “Then they buy you crisps. You don’t go to Florida. You go to the Twa Tams.”
Local commiseration packages, compiled by the Perthetic, include a two-hour stroll on the North Inch, a sympathetic bridie and a long look at the Tay “to put things in perspective”.
Miami officials did not comment. Perth’s pub quizzes remain open to all candidates.
