Plans have been lodged to turn a former shoe shop on Perth’s St John Street into escape rooms, a move welcomed by residents who say the city centre has been a live-action puzzle since the one-way system was introduced.
Early concepts for rooms have been leaked to the Perthetic by someone who definitely made them up in the pub. They include The Stock Room (escape before closing with exactly the right pair), The Park and Ride (find the bus), The South Inch Car Park (find your car, in the dark, in November) and The Final Room, in which players must exit Perth via the Friarton Bridge during lane closures.
“An escape room on St John Street is genius,” said a shopper from Scone. “You’ll be in there, sweating, the clock running, and you’ll come out and it’s still raining. That’s immersive theatre.”
Planners will consider the application in due course. Players are advised that clues may be hidden in the pigeon on the lamp post, who has seen things.

Brilliant idea. I’ve been trapped in that shoe shop before, trying on boots, so it’s basically tradition.

First clue: find a size nine. Nobody has ever escaped.
