I Saw the Sun on Thursday and I’m Not Sure I’ve Recovered

A personal account of 47 minutes that changed nothing, but felt like everything.

I was on my way to the Post Office. Then it came out. No warning. Just there. Bright. Warm. On my face.

I stood still. People around me were smiling. One woman took her coat off. A teenager said “this is class”. I felt something stir, and I want to be clear: I did not like it.

By the time the cloud came back I was myself again. But I will never forget the moment I nearly said “lovely day”. Never again.
