Perthetic Has Published a Good News Section and Frankly I Don’t Trust It
Our Grumpiness Correspondent on why happiness is a slippery slope.

It starts with a dog that catches the bus. Then a glove returned. Then the swans stop hissing. Where does it end? People smiling at each other on the High Street? Saying “morning” at the bus stop? Holding doors?
I’ve lived in Perth for 61 years and I’ve been happy exactly twice, and both times I had a word with myself.
I’m not saying good news is bad. I’m saying it’s a gateway. Today a glove. Tomorrow, someone fixes Broxden, and then what will we complain about? The weather? We’d run out in a week.
Angus Fairweather is the Perthetic Grumpiness Correspondent. He was grumpy writing this, which was nice.

No letters yet. The town is uncharacteristically quiet.
