PERTH — As the curling season gets under way at Perth’s ice rink, the city has seen a familiar seasonal spike in residents shouting “HURRY HARD!” at objects that are not curling stones.

Supermarket staff reported customers bellowing at slow-moving trolleys. A woman in Scone was seen sweeping frantically in front of a rolling wheelie bin. A Kinross man is said to have swept the entire length of a pavement in front of his elderly dog.

“It’s a sickness,” said a club member. “In January it gets worse. People start sweeping the ice in front of buses. Usually the buses don’t speed up.”

No letters yet. The town is uncharacteristically quiet.
