Sun Actually Comes Out as Forecast; Perth Too Polite to Mention It in Case It Leaves

City conducts entire Thursday in hushed tones; nobody uses the word 'lovely' in case it hears.

PERTH — Following this week’s alarming forecast of “dry with bright spells”, residents have agreed to treat Thursday’s predicted sunshine like a deer in the garden: stay very still, speak quietly, and do not make any sudden movements.

“If you say ‘lovely day’ out loud, it goes away,” explained a Craigie woman. “Everyone knows that. My uncle said ‘scorcher’ in 1995 and it rained until 1997.”

Cafés on South Street plan to put out exactly one outdoor chair each “so as not to look desperate.” The council has issued guidance asking residents not to point at the sky.

By Friday, the forecast is wet and windy again, and the city is expected to breathe out and say “aye, well, it was nice while it lasted”, which is the Perth motto.

No letters yet. The town is uncharacteristically quiet.
