BRIDGE OF CALLY — More than 7,600 homes and businesses across rural Perth and Kinross have been connected to faster broadband, and the region has responded with a level of joy last seen when the Co-op got a new freezer.

In Bridge of Cally, an 88-year-old resident who has lived through three phone boxes and a pager watched an entire video without it stopping. “I didn’t know they moved all the way through,” she said. “I thought films were meant to stop every ten seconds for a wee think.”

In Glenshee, a farmer held his first-ever successful video call with his brother in Canada. “We’d been shouting at each other’s still faces since 2011,” he said. “Turns out he’s got a beard now. I’m furious nobody told me.”

Engineers said the most common request from newly-connected customers was for help turning the wifi off again “because the grandkids will find out.”
